May 2008 Rides and Ride Schedule The May 3rd ride at Savannah went well, with 22 members participating. The track was a little rutted on the lower section, with some braking bumps here and there, but overall it was a good ride. The May 10th ride at Broome was one that you shouldn’t have missed. We had a turnout of 29 members and we rode the pro track on a well prepared course. The photos for both rides can be seen on the website. Much thanks to Pam Burns and Paul Darsky for taking the photos and to Pam for getting them up on the website. Always be sure to check the Hotline before heading to a ride, we have had some last minute adjustments of start and finish times already this year. We will try to have this information on the Hotline as much ahead of time as possible. Flagging We flagged the Northeast Classic at Broome-Tioga on the weekend of April 26th and 27th. Thanks to all of the members who signed up and were there for the flagging duties. The flagging schedule is filling up, but we are still short a few people for the Sunday National flagging at Unadilla on July 20th and the New York State Championship at Broome-Tioga on September 27th and 28th. We will rotate flagging for the National, as we always have, which results in some of the “best seats in the house” for the National race. Depending on how the membership adds up for the months of May and June, we may need to ask some members for an extra flag day. Please keep in mind that we have a total of 18 rides on our schedule that we get for our flagging of the events at Broome and Unadilla. For those members with family memberships, family members who are 18 years old can flag. Work Days The work day requirement is 3 days for the riding season, 2 of which have to be flag days. We do need members to do sign-in at the rides. Sign-in requires that you arrive at the track ahead of the starting ride time and setup a spot for members to sign the release sheets. Please review the schedule and let myself or Gary Burns know what ride days you can do sign-in for. It works well if two people team up for the day and split the duties. Membership Drive Gary has brochures and posters with club information on them. If you need any please let him know and he will send them out to you. Email Gary at gburns@stny.rr.com or call 607-786-0676. We will also make sure to have them with us at the rides. Just let us know if you need some. There is one minor policy change that now shows up on the website: “Applications can be accepted at rides only if specific prior arrangements are made with a SATRA officer. Payment must be in cash at the ride.” Thanks For The Help I just want to express my appreciation to Gary Burns and Andy Warner for picking up my duties while I was wintering in Florida. They, and several other people, were instrumental in getting an outstanding schedule of rides put together for our 2008 riding season. Contrary to what Gary claims, I would never rub it in that I was enjoying the warm weather and riding all winter. Next SATRA Meeting Our next SATRA Meeting will be held on Monday June 2nd, 2008 @ 7:00 PM at the Fayetteville Village Hall, top floor. The Village Hall is located on Route 5 (425 E. Genesee St.) next to the fire station adjacent to Friendly’s. Parking is behind the building. Enter through the door way located in the back, (parking lot level), go up the stairs to the 3rd floor and to the right, into the court room. Classified Advertisements
Don’t hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to a great riding season and seeing everyone at the rides. Leon Whaley, SATRA President
